So it’s not been the best winter (for skiing). Some snow around Christmas, then a long, long spell of rain, sun, everything but snow. The resort did an amazing job keeping things going between creative grooming and making snow when able. It was generally only three runs but at least it was skiing!

Then around the beginning of March a huge blizzard dumped over a metre of snow in about a day. That kept things going, allowing all the chairs to open (except the Boomerang, of course) and many more runs becoming available. Had a couple of fantastic days of actual powder skiing!

One final blast of winter on April 1, got about 20cm. Snowed hard all day, just for my birthday! It’s gone now as I write this. Almost got through the season, just opened for the final scheduled weekend after closing for 4 days to save the snow. It was really marginal but no worse than I’ve skied before.
The gang took skiing very seriously this year, we managed 7 people in the top 10 (for runs/vertical skied). And most of us got chicked by Green Machine. She was relentless! Not bad with over 1500 people in contention.

This season was a bit notable for an unusual reason. I’ve never seen such a variety of wildlife through the season. Elk, deer, black bear, ptarmigan, marten, squirrels, jays, whisky jacks, rodents, and so many others I can’t even remember them all. I guess they liked the warm, nearly snowless winter.
Beyond the weather shortcomings, it was a bit of an up-and-down winter. Robbie has moved home with his lovely partner so now I can annoy him in person! Family and health challenges were met and overcome in epic ways. So much good news in the end. I’m very proud of my new family and love you all so much.

Good-bye to the 2025-26 ski season. Kudos to Mt. Washington Alpine Resort and their new manager, they did an amazing job keeping things going. My next post will probably be from England or on the way!
Oh, a little postscript. There’s a YouTube channel out there called Canucks on the Cut that’s causing some confusion in the search engines. Weirdly, they’re from Victoria too which I’m sure increases the Google and ChatGPT mixups. If you erroneously end up there, maybe just let them know that’s it’s a problem. Mine is @canuckonthecut (without the ‘s’).
